The Ivy Mandarin

The Ivy Mandarin Speaking Club

The Ivy Mandarin Speaking Club

Use the Chinese You Already Know

You've learned vocabulary, grammar, and sentence patterns.

Maybe you've studied with a teacher, used language-learning apps, watched TikTok and YouTube videos, or learned Chinese on your own.

You've learned so much about Chinese, but when it's time to actually speak, are you willing to speak up and use what you've learned with confidence?

Can people understand you clearly when you speak?

Do you know how to say what you want to say in a natural way?

And are you learning the kind of Chinese people actually use in everyday life — or mostly textbook Chinese?

If you've been learning Chinese for a while but don't get enough opportunities to actually use it, the Speaking Club gives you a place to practice.

You don't need another course full of things to memorize. You need a place to use what you've already learned.

Is This Speaking Club Right for You?

This may be a good fit if you:

✅ Have already studied some Mandarin but don't get enough opportunities to speak
✅ Understand more Chinese than you can comfortably say
✅ Know vocabulary and grammar but aren't always sure how to put them together naturally
✅ Want to improve your pronunciation and tones through regular speaking practice
✅ Want to learn more natural, everyday Chinese
✅ Have learned Chinese from different teachers, apps, videos, or other resources and feel that your learning is a little fragmented
✅ Want regular speaking practice without committing to regular 1-on-1 lessons
✅ Want to ask a native Mandarin teacher when you're unsure about a word, sentence, pronunciation, or expression
✅ Prefer a flexible learning format that doesn't require you to attend at a particular time every week

This may not be the right fit if you:

   1. Are looking for a complete structured Mandarin course from the beginning
   2. Want intensive 1-on-1 correction in every session
   3. Are an absolute beginner who has never learned basic Pinyin, tones, or simple Mandarin sentences
   4. Are looking for scheduled live classes rather than flexible practice

The Speaking Club is designed to sit between studying Mandarin and using Mandarin in real life.

A Place to Actually Use Your Mandarin

You can study vocabulary and grammar on your own, but speaking gets easier when you regularly use what you've learned.

Inside the Speaking Club, you'll have a new practical speaking topic each week to help you practice Mandarin in a real-life context.

A new topic is posted every Saturday morning (Beijing time).

You can then practice and submit your response whenever it fits your schedule.

Everyone works on the same weekly topic, but the speaking activity can be adapted to different levels.

For Beginners

You'll get simpler questions and sentence patterns to help you express yourself clearly using the Chinese you already know.

For Intermediate Learners

You'll be encouraged to give more details, explain your ideas, describe experiences, and use more natural expressions.

One topic, different levels — so you can practice at a level that feels challenging without being overwhelming.

You can record yourself speaking, share your ideas, listen to other learners, ask questions, and learn from the way other people express themselves.

And when you're not sure about something, you can ask Ivy.

Maybe you want to know:

  Is my pronunciation clear?
Did I use the right word?
  Is this sentence grammatically correct?
Would a native speaker actually say it this way?
How can I say this more naturally?

Instead of keeping those questions to yourself, you have a place to ask.

What You'll Get

Personalized Voice Feedback

Submit a voice recording based on the weekly topic and receive feedback directly from Ivy, a native Mandarin teacher.

Feedback can cover:

   ✅ Pronunciation and tones
   ✅ Grammar
   ✅ Word choice
✅ More natural ways to express yourself
✅ Suggestions for what to practice next

The focus is on the Chinese you're actually trying to use — not generic corrections from a textbook.

Weekly Speaking Practice

Every Saturday morning (Beijing time), you'll have a new practical topic or speaking activity to work on.

You can practice when it fits your schedule instead of having to attend a class at a fixed time.

The goal is simple:

Keep using your Chinese.

Practical, Everyday Chinese

Practice the kind of Mandarin that comes up in real conversations.

Topics may include:

   ✅ Food and restaurants
   ✅ Travel
   ✅ Shopping
   ✅ Work and daily routines
   ✅ Hobbies and interests
   ✅ Family and relationships
   ✅ Chinese culture
   ✅ Recent experiences
✅ Things you've been doing or learning
✅ Everyday situations you've actually experienced

You'll also come across expressions that may not appear in your textbook but are commonly used in everyday Chinese.

Native Teacher Support

Have a question about pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, or an expression you've heard?

Ask Ivy and get guidance when you need it.

Feedback is provided by Ivy herself — a native Mandarin teacher with international teaching experience.

This isn't a full 1-on-1 lesson, but you're not left to figure everything out by yourself.

Learn from Other Mandarin Learners

You'll be part of a community of Mandarin learners from different countries and backgrounds.

You can see how other learners express themselves, learn from their questions, and discover different ways of saying things.

You can participate when you're ready. You don't have to be the most active person in the community to benefit from it.

Flexible by Design

This isn't a live class.

A new speaking topic is posted every Saturday morning (Beijing time), and you can participate whenever it fits your schedule.

There are no fixed class times, so you don't need to rearrange your schedule to join.

Whether you're in Europe, North America, Asia, or somewhere else, you can practice when you have time.

You can:

Learn → Practice → Record → Get Feedback → Try Again

Time Commitment

You don't need to spend hours every week.

A typical week might look like:

  ✅ Weekly topic & practice: 10–20 minutes
✅ Record your response: 2–5 minutes
✅ Listen to your feedback: a few minutes
✅ Community participation: as much or as little as you want

Around 20–40 minutes per week is enough to get started.

Of course, you can spend more time practicing if you want to.

The point is to make regular speaking practice realistic — even if you have a busy schedule.

How Feedback Works

Your feedback is based on the Chinese you actually produce.

You submit a voice recording based on the weekly topic, and Ivy reviews it personally.

Your feedback may include:

Pronunciation & Tones

Corrections to sounds, tones, and pronunciation patterns that may make your Chinese harder to understand.

Grammar

Corrections when something is grammatically incorrect or doesn't fit the context.

Natural Expressions

Suggestions for how a native Mandarin speaker would naturally express the same idea.

What to Practice Next

A few specific things you can focus on instead of trying to fix everything at once.

The goal isn't to point out every possible mistake.

It's to help you notice the problems that matter and gradually improve the way you actually speak.

Where the Community Lives

The Speaking Club community is hosted on Discord through Whop.

You can access the community from your computer or phone.

Inside the community, you can:

✅ See the weekly topic and speaking activities
  ✅ Submit your voice recordings
✅ Read and respond to other learners
  ✅ Ask Ivy questions
  ✅ Learn from other members
✅ Practice when it fits your schedule

You can participate actively or simply listen and learn at first.

There's no requirement to be online at a particular time.

Real-Life Chinese, Not Just Textbook Chinese

Knowing a lot of Chinese doesn't always mean you can use it naturally.

You may know the grammar rule but still hesitate when speaking.

You may know the word but wonder whether a native speaker would actually use it that way.

You may understand what someone says but struggle to respond yourself.

That's where regular practice matters.

The Speaking Club focuses on helping you turn the Chinese you already know into something you can actually use.

How It Works

1. Join the Speaking Club

Join through the membership link and get access to the community.

2. Check the Weekly Topic

Every Saturday morning (Beijing time), a new practical speaking topic is posted.

3. Choose Your Level

Everyone works on the same topic, but you can choose the version that matches your level.

Beginners can use simpler questions and sentence patterns.

Intermediate learners can take the topic further with more detail and more natural expressions.

4. Practice at Your Own Pace

Think about what you want to say, practice your Mandarin, and record your response when you're ready.

5. Submit Your Recording

Send your voice recording based on the weekly activity.

6. Get Feedback from Ivy

Ivy personally reviews your recording and gives feedback on pronunciation, tones, grammar, and natural expressions.

7. Keep Using Your Chinese

Use the feedback, try again, learn from other learners, and come back for the next topic.

Who Is It For?

The Speaking Club is designed for beginner and intermediate Mandarin learners who already have some basic knowledge of Chinese and want more opportunities to use it.

A good starting point is if you can already:

  ✅ Read basic Pinyin
✅ Recognize and produce the basic Mandarin tones
  ✅ Introduce yourself
✅ Talk about simple daily activities
✅ Make basic sentences about familiar topics

You don't need to be fluent.

You don't need perfect pronunciation.

And you don't need to know everything before you start speaking.

If you can already say things like:

“I live in London.”

“I went to a Chinese restaurant yesterday.”

“I like traveling.”

“This weekend I'm going to…”

—you have enough Chinese to start practicing.

If you're not sure whether your level is suitable, you can contact Ivy before joining.

What Makes It Different from 1-on-1 Mandarin Coaching?

The Speaking Club and 1-on-1 Mandarin coaching serve different purposes.

1-on-1 Mandarin coaching is personalized around your level, goals, pronunciation, learning needs, and progress. Every lesson is taught directly by Ivy, and the content can be adjusted specifically for you.

The Speaking Club is for beginner and intermediate learners who want more opportunities to use Mandarin independently, practice with other learners, and get teacher guidance and feedback without committing to regular 1-on-1 lessons.

You can choose the format that fits the way you want to learn.

Is This a Course or a Community?

It's a speaking practice community, not a traditional Mandarin course.

You won't be expected to follow a textbook from Lesson 1 to Lesson 20.

Instead, you'll have regular opportunities to practice real-life Mandarin, ask questions, receive feedback, and learn from other learners.

If you want a structured learning plan with lessons built specifically around your level and goals, 1-on-1 Mandarin coaching may be a better fit.

If you're a beginner or intermediate learner who already knows some Chinese and mainly needs more opportunities to use it, the Speaking Club may be what you're looking for.
